Nitrogen plays a very important part in the soldering process. For one thing, it reduces scratching and helps to keep down solder costs. But this element has further talents since it reduces surface tension at the soldering nozzle and thereby ensures improved viscosity. This in turn provides the most important precondition for a reproducible soldering process with selective soldering. In NordsonSELECT’s technology, nitrogen is used to protect the soldering nozzle from oxidation. If this important element is missing, the solder coming out of the nozzle is oxidised. Then it is no longer possible to continue the soldering process.

Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) technology is based on the adsorption principle with a carbon molecular sieve (CMS) as the adsorbent.

By adsorption is meant the bonding of particles to the surface of a substance. For the generation of nitrogen, compressed air flows through a container with a carbon molecular sieve. Oxygen molecules react with activated carbon in this process. This adsorption process continues until the activated carbon is saturated with oxygen molecules. Then comes a switch to the second container. The oxygen molecules are again adsorbed. During this process, the other container regenerates.
Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) ensures a constant supply of nitrogen of a purity of up to 6.0 / 1.0 ppm (residual oxygen) and delivered volumes of 0.50 – 10,000.00 Nm³/hr.

The technology used by NordsonSELECT is based on the adsorption principle with a carbon molecular sieve. The adsorption process separates the nitrogen molecules from the oxygen molecules. This technology and the special NordsonSELECT process ensures for one thing constant nitrogen production and for another the desired nitrogen purity of up to 99.9999%.
